Bell Ringers & Church Choir
Bell Ringers
Lavenham has 8 bells in the tower.
The lightest is the No 2 bell which weighs 320 kg
The heaviest is the No 8 tenor bell which weighs 1070 kg and was cast in 1625
The oldest bells are No 4 and No6 which were cast in 1603.
Musically the bells encompass a major octave, the lowest note being D flat.
They are rung each Sunday before morning service and also for weddings, national celebrations and events and by visiting bell ringers.
The clock strikes the hour on the 5th bell and the quarters on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th bells. Unusually there is no clock face on the tower, so you have to listen carefully to know what time it is.
We have a dedicated team of both male and female ringers who enjoy the ancient art of church bell ringing.
We welcome potential new ringers, please contact our Tower Captain Martin Weaver by E–mail at lavenham@suffolkbells.org.uk or telephone 01787 247957
Visiting ringers are also welcome. Please contact our Tower Captain as above
